Brazil is the first champion of the I Pan American University Surfing Games!!!!
Glauciano Rodrigues and Renata Tambon took Gold in their divisions and went on to lead Team Brazil to Gold as well !!
The I Pan American University Surfing Games, were held in Brazil during the first weekend in December, 2009, at the Praia do Futuro in Fortaleza.
Teams arrived on Friday and were greated that evening with a hosted cocktail for the teams to get to know each other.
On Saturday morning, all the teams attended a lecture that was simutaneosly translated for all the participants. The lecture was on Global Warming in which directly affects the surfing world as it changes the surf spots, water temperature, and weather patterns.
After lunch everyone went to the beach for the Opening Ceremony. The participants were greeted by a dance performance and then went on to sign the Book of Participation. The competition then began in small waves that are typical for the Northeastern coast of Brazil. They were small but the athletes made the most of them showing their talents in the difficult conditions.
It was an exciting final in the mens division between Glauciano Rodrigues, from Brazil and Eric Taylor from the United States of America. In the women’s division, it was Renata Tambon from Brazil against Amy Nicholl, also from the USA. Both of the American surfers are from the state of Florida.
After 3 days of the event which involved 9 countries. One of the countries showed a strong desire to do well and overcome certain obsticals and that was Guadeloupe! Thibaut Breneol, the athlet from Guadeloupe had problems with his flight from Miami and when he did arrive, just in time to sign the Book of Participation, his luggage did not arrive and he had no board to surf. He borrowed a board from someone and went on to do well for Guadeloupe.

¡El Brasil es el primer campeón de los I Juegos Panamericanos Universitarios de Surf!!!!
Glauciano Rodrigues y Renata Tambon tomaron el oro en sus divisiones y llevaron el equipo de Brasil al oro también!!
Los I Juegos Panamericanos Universitarios de Surf, fueron realizados en Brasil durante el primer fin de semana en diciembre de 2009, en la Playa del Futuro en Fortaleza. Los equipos llegaron el viernes y fueron recibidos con un coctel.
El la mañana de sábado, todos los equipos atendieron a una conferencia que fue traducida para todos los participantes. La conferencia estaba en el calentamiento del planeta en cuál afecta directamente los que practican surf, cambia los spots de surf, la temperatura del agua, y los ciclos de tiempo.
Después del almuerzo todos fueron a la playa para la Ceremonia de Inauguración. Una tropa de la danza local abriu la Ceremonia, luego los participantes firmaron el Libro de Participación.
La competición entonces comenzó en las pequeñas ondas que son típicas para la costa del noreste del Brasil. Eran pequeñas pero los atletas las hicieron la mayor parte de que demostraban sus talentos en las condiciones difíciles.
Era un final emocionante en la división del hombre entre Glauciano Rodrigues, del Brasil y de Eric Taylor de los Estados Unidos. En la división femenino, era Renata Tambon del Brasil contra el Amy Nicholl, también de los E.E.U.U.
El evento duró 3 días que implicó 9 países. ¡Uno de los países demostró que un deseo fuerte de hacer bien y de superar ciertos obsticals y ése era Guadalupe! Thibaut Breneol, el athlet de Guadalupe tenía problemas con su vuelo de Miami y cuando él llegó, su equipaje no llegó y él no tenía ninguna tabla para competir. Él pidió prestado una tabla y hizo bien para Guadalupe.
