The VIII Pan American Surfing Games are quicky approaching
PASA’s Executive Committee met the weekend of the 16th this month, in Iquique, Chile home of the VIII Pan American Surfing Games.

The committee went over all the details of the event. With the support of Iquique’s government, this competition promises to be the best in PASA history.

Iquique is a city that has everything one could want for such an event. Easy access to the beaches and located in the middle of the city: good hotels, restaurants, movie theaters, shopping centers, nice people, and the most important thing- good waves!

Upgrade the Morro Bay/Cayucos SewageTreatment Plant Now!
Tell Morro Bay and Cayucos to stop dragging their feet and upgrade their outdated sewage plant as fully and as quickly as possible.

Morro Bay and Cayucos are home to the threatened California sea otter, whose statewide population numbers only 2,700. For more than two decades the Morro Bay/Cayucos sewage plant has dumped sewage containing high levels of bacteria and other pollutants into the ocean, and the bay’s surrounding waters have become a hotspot for sea otter deaths.

The VIII Panamerican Surfing Games Are Launched
With some of the local and international authorities present along with some of best respresentatives from the extreme sports sector of Chile, the VIII Panamerican Surfing Games, Iquique 2007 were launched at the end of November 2006. The mayor, Marco Pérez, explained the importance of this event, which will bring together more than 400 surfers next year to the coast of Iquique. The vice-president of the Chilean Surf Federation, Mauricio Godoy, presented a report of the achievements of Chile in international competitions, especially during the Panamerican competitions.

COSTA RICA - Jose Ureña Appointed New President of the FS
In an interview for FS’s web page, the new president Jose Ureña– who has been the director of all the events for the CNS (Circuito Nacional de Surf) for the last two years– stated that in the months to follow, he will double the efforts so that Costa Rican surfers may travel to all big national and regional events.

BARBADOS - The Barbados Surfing Association Elects New Executive Committee
The Barbados Surfing Association held its annual General Meeting on Thursday, December 7th, 2006 and elected the following Executive Committee:

    President – Mr. Andrew Lewis Vice-President – Mr. Jason Kistoo
    Secretary – Mrs. Margot Tuach Treasurer – Mrs. Rachel Roett

This Committee will be responsible for running the BSA’s affairs but will elect subcommittees with specific duties as needed.

ARUBA - “URIRAMA CLASSIC” Becomes “ARASHI SPECIAL” After Large Swell Hits"
The Aruba Surfing Association and Arusurf had originally scheduled the “Urirama Classic” surfing competition to be held at Urirama Beach. However, due to a large swell that arrived during the weekend, contest officials decided that the conditions at that beach would be too dangerous for surfers and the contest was moved to a new location; Arashi Beach and given the name “Arashi Special”.

Con la presencia de los mejores exponentes de la disciplina deportiva extrema de nuestro país, además de dirigentes, autoridades locales e internacionales, ayer pasadas las 20 horas fue lanzado en el ex edificio de la Aduana, los VIII Juegos Panamericanos de Surf, Iquique 2007.

A toda máquina están trabajando los dirigentes de la Asociación de Surf de Iquique y la Federación Chilena de la especialidad, para la materialización de los próximos Panamericanos, Iquique 2007.

Los primeros días de noviembre del 2007 Iquique será sede del Campeonato Panamericano de Surf. Serán más de 500 especialistas y 22 delegaciones de países quienes exhibirán los mejor del deporte extremo en nuestras costas.
Por tal motivo, la presidenta de la Asociación Panamericana de Surf, PASA, Maile Aguerre, arribó ayer a nuestra ciudad para interiorizarse de los detalles de la organización del certamen internacional.

This past August PASA President Maile Aguerre met with the Minister of Sports, National Secretary, Mr. Andre Arantes and the Executive Secretary of the Mangament of the Pan American Games, Mr. Ricardo Leyser Gonçalves, in Brasilia, Brazil’s Capital.

In this meeting they discussed the possibility of putting on a demonstration of a surfing competition on the Cultural Program of the Pan American Games, Rio 2007.

Special Note: Former President Of The
Argentinian Surf Association Passes Away
MIGUEL ANGEL ARANDIA, “MICKY”, (9/24/1958 - 8/17/2006)

Miguel Angel Arandia, or better known as “MICKY”, of Mar del Plata, Argentina, died of cancer on August 17, 2006. For the last couple of months he had been staying at a hospital, where his family, friends and doctors tried their hardest to beat the cancer.

During his last days, many people went to the hospital to show him love and support. Also, a ceremony was held at a near-by beach, organized by local surfers and friends to pay tribute to Micky.

El surfo de Playa Tamarindo, Federico Pilurzu, acabó en el primer lugar de la categoría open en el I Campeonato Centroamericano de Surf Adrenalina 2006 que terminó hoy en Playa Esterillos de Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
Durante el episodio final de esa rama el tico se enfrentó a su compatriota, Jason Torres, quien sufrió un tirón en la pierna derecha inconveniente que lo obligó a salir del agua durante unos cinco minutos.
