The Pan American Surfing Association (PASA in English) is proud to announce Brazil as the Pan American Champion Team of the XVI edition of the Pan American Surfing Games (PASG) 2023, Panama, which took place from April 21 to April 30, 2023.

Guga Arruda, Coach of the Brazil Team, said:

We are very happy and excited about the victory. It has been very difficult, all the surfers in the event have put up a great fight, especially in the shortboard final, in which Kristian (Kimmerson) came from behind, climbing the positions and thanks to him we won!

Argentina closed in second place with 11,540 points, third was Peru with 11,338 points and fourth Canada with 10,978 points.

The first individual final of the day was the Women’s Short Board, where the winner was Silvana Lima from Brazil, facing Chelsea Tuach from Barbados, Lucia Indurain from Argentina and Sanoa Olin from Canada.

Olin was in first place in the heat during the first half, but Lima knew how to wait for the best waves and when they arrived she took full advantage of them and with only two waves she was able to take the lead that she held until the end of the Final.

“I want to thank everyone here in Panama, it’s my first time here and I thank everyone for everything, I’m very happy,”

Said Lima.

Final results:

1. Silvana Lima (BRA) 13.16

2. Chelsea Tuach (BAR) 9.77

The Men’s Short Board category was won by Kristian Kimmerson in a final against Cody Young from Canada, Leandro Usuna from Argentina and Isauro Elizondo from Panama.

Kimmerson had a slow start to the Heat, in which he could not find the right waves, but the Canadian Young knew how to take advantage of the conditions and took the lead in the first minutes, closely followed by Usuna and Elizondo.

For the last minutes the Brazilian found the rhythm of Santa Catalina, posting high scores. By the final exchange of waves, Kimmerson appeared to be in second place behind Young, but his last wave was enough to pass the Canadian by just 0.60 points.

“First of all I am very happy to have won here at the Pan American Games, this is very important to me, to be representing Brazil and a wonderful team. I am simply speechless to describe this moment,”

Kimmerson said.
