Surfing at Santiago 2023 has started!

Santiago Surfing 2023 started today, tuesday october 24, in the amazing waves of Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu, Chile.

This event has brought together 88 male and female athletes from more than 15 countries in the Americas in four different categories: Short Board, Long Board, SUP Surf and SUP Race.

Shortboard, Longboard and SUP Surf categories competed in this historic first day of the event, in good wave conditions that allowed the athletes to demonstrate all their ability and why they are participating in one of the largest multi-sport events of the planet.

All the athletes demonstrated their determination and desire to win medals and a possible classification for Paris 2024, but six athletes stood out as the best of the day:

Benoit Picolo Clemente from Peru was the best in Men’s Longboard with a total of 12.16 points.

María Fernanda Reyes from Peru, was the best in Women’s Longboard, scoring 15.00 points.

Leilani McGonagle of Costa Rica was the best in Women’s Shortboard with 15.33 points.

Lucca Mesinas of Peru was the best in Men’s Shortboard with 17.67, the highest score of the event so far.

In Men’s SUP Surf, Luiz Diniz from Brazil had a total of 15.50 points

Lucía Cosoleto from Argentina in Women’s SUP Surf, double ISA world champion, scored 13.33 points.

Surfing in Santiago 2023 is a double elimination event in which all competitors have two opportunities to achieve Medals. Those who lose in the first round fall to the repechage rounds.

The event continues tomorrow, October 25 from 08:00 and will see the first eliminations from the event and shorten the list of athletes with the possibility of winning a medal for their countries.
