PASA announces the XI Pan American Surfing Games CLARO OPEN 2015

Dear Athletes,

With great pleasure, the Pan-American Surf Association (PASA) announces the official dates of the 2015 PAN-AMERICAN CLARO OPEN.

From December 2 to the 6, the perfect waves of Punta Rocas, in Lima, Peru, the most important Olympic format competition of Surfing in the Americas will be held, where the new team and individual champions of the continent will be crowned.

This event will be the first competition for national teams of the Americas, towards the qualification to the Pan American Games Lima 2019. During this competition important meetings between the leaders of the surfing national governing bodies and PASA will decide the form and place where the qualifying competition to Lima 2019 will be held.

For this edition of the Pan American Surfing Games, PASA will unite with the Latin American Surfing Professionals Association (ALAS, in spanish), to give the competitors the chance to win money prizes, and points for the Latin Tour ranking.

This will be an open event, any athlete can register and compete through its respective national federation.

In order that an athlete can compete for cash prizes, the only requirement is to pay the respective registration to the category he/she wishes to compete in. However, if a participant only wishes to compete for the Pan American Surfing Titles, without competing for the money prize, his/her participation will be completely free of charge.

$20,000USD will be distributed in prizes to the Open category, the rest of the categories will distribute the total amount of the registration fee to the four finalists.

Our beloved sport in going through golden times, and big positive changes are near. The good news started past July, when the General Assembly of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) voted in favor of the inclusion of Surfing in the upcoming Pan American Games, scheduled to be held in Lima, Peru, in 2019.

And past September, the organization of Tokyo 2020 recommended to the International Olympic Committee the inclusion of the sport of Surfing to the Sports Programme of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

For this reason, the nations of the Americas more than ever must unite and take important decisions about the participation in both events.

The participating categories for the 2015 PAN-AMERICAN CLARO OPEN are:

  • Open Surfing (Men and Women)
  • Juniors Under 20
  • Longboard (Men and Women)
  • SUP Surf (Men and Women)
  • Bodyboard prone (Men and Women)
  • Bodyboard Dropknee
  • SUP Race (Men and Women)
  • Prone Race (Men and Women)

The Pan-American Surf Association invites all the athletes and governing bodies of the Americas to send their representatives to be part of this historic event  and all together work towards the Olympic dream.

EVENT SCHEDULE

  • November 24th, Press Conference at Club Waikiki – 11am.
  • November 30th, Delegation arrivals.
  • December 1st, Team registration – Team Managers meeting
  • December 1st, Welcome Dinner in Punta Hermosa (Cafae / Club Nautico / Don Angelo).
  • December 2nd to December 6th, competition days.
  • December 3rd, Award Ceremony – Bodyboard category.
  • December 5th, Private party in Moana – Pico Alto / Punta Hermosa. 7pm
  • December 6th, Closing ceremony.
